Three persons familiar with the plan said that former President Donald Trump will be examined by probation officials in New York on Monday. This is a mandatory step prior to his sentencing in July in his criminal hush money case.
Trump will conduct the interview via computer video conference from his home at the Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. They were not authorised to publicly reveal the plans, so they talked under the condition of anonymity
Todd Blanche, one of Trump’s solicitors, is scheduled to attend the interview. In New York, probation officers often meet with convicted felons in the absence of their attorneys. However, in Trump’s case, Judge Juan Merchan indicated in a letter on Friday that he would permit Blanche to attend.
Pre-sentencing probation interviews are typically conducted to gather information for a report that will provide the judge with additional details about the offender and maybe assist in determining the appropriate sentence for the offence.
These reports are usually written by a probation officer, social worker, or psychologist employed by the probation department, who conducts interviews with the offender, his or her friends and family, and those impacted by the offence.
A defendant’s criminal history, personal background, and recommended sentence are all included in presentence reports. It will also contain details regarding employment and any duties related to providing care for a family member. A defendant has the opportunity to explain why they believe they should receive a lesser sentence.
A jury found that Trump had fabricated financial records at his own firm as part of a larger plot to buy off individuals who might have revealed damaging information about him in the course of the 2016 presidential campaign. Porn star Stormy Daniels received a $130,000 payment after she claimed to have had a sexual encounter with Trump, an allegation the business has disputed.
The Republican frontrunner, Donald Trump, claims he is innocent of all charges and that the criminal case was filed to harm his prospects of winning back the presidency.
President Joe Biden’s Democratic Party supporters “continue to ramp up their ongoing Witch Hunts, further abusing and misusing the power of their offices to interfere in the election,” according to a statement released by Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, on Sunday.
Trump’s sentencing has been set for July 11 by Merchan. He has the authority to apply a broad range of sanctions, from community service and probation to a maximum of four years in jail.
