Trump, the Republican nominee for president, referred to Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, and her running mate, Tim Walz, as “communists,” expressed his happiness that they were included on the ticket, and hinted at a “fairly soon” debate with the US vice president.
“This ticket would want this country to go communist immediately, if not sooner,” stated Trump on Wednesday, August 7, during an appearance on Fox News’s Fox & Friends show.
When Harris announced that the governor of Minnesota would be his running partner, he commented, “This is a shocking pick.”
“It’s very insulting to the Jewish people…very insulting to people that want security,” he stated. He was presumably implying that Josh Shapiro, another strong candidate for running mate, was passed over by Harris because Shapiro is Jewish.
Speaking of Walz as a “very, very liberal man,” Trump expressed his excitement about being included on the Democratic ticket.
“He has a strong interest in transgender issues and believes everything about them is fantastic. He’s not the nation’s position on anything,” he continued.
Trump compared Walz to a more intelligent version of Harris. “He’s worse than they are, based on his track record of letting everyone in, having no security, and no walls. Harris is a more intelligent version of her, but no one realized how radical left she was.”
He also made a comparison between Senator Bernie Sanders, a well-known socialist and liberal, and Walz. “He’s probably about the same as Bernie Sanders, probably more so…”
Trump stated that he will participate in the ‘pretty soon’ announcement of Harris’s opponent, and he made a suggestion that Fox News should host the debate. He had already withdrawn from a discussion that ABC News was scheduled to broadcast.
“How she debates is beyond me. I’ve heard that she’s not a great debater but is generally a terrible person. However, we’ll see since, I suppose, we’ll be debating her very soon. It will be made known rather shortly.
“I’d love to see it on Fox, but, you know, it takes two to tango,” stating that Harris “doesn’t want to debate.”
Harris criticized Trump for calling off the ABC News debate last week, even though she had consented to it.
“If you’ve got something to say, say it to my face,” Harris had shouted at a rally following the former US president’s withdrawal from the debate last week.
