During a vicious attack on Democratic candidate Joe Biden, Republican contender for president, Donald Trump dubbed him a “Manchurian candidate” and accused him of receiving funding from China. The US presidential debate took place on Thursday, June 27, at CNN’s Atlanta headquarters.
Trump declared, “We now have the largest deficit in the history of our country,” during the debate. With China, we have the biggest gap. China pays him. He’s running as a Manchurian. He receives money from China.”
“If you continue to let China do what they are doing to us as a nation, they will eventually own us. Joe, you cannot allow us to continue to be destroyed as a nation. You’re ruining our nation, Trump said to Biden.
He referred to Biden’s military strategies as “insane,” asserting that world leaders such as Kim Jong Un of North Korea, Xi Jinping of China, and Vladimir Putin of Russia do not respect or fear Biden. “This gentleman has nothing going for him, and he’s going to drive us into World War III,” declared President Trump.
The phrase “Manchurian candidate” alludes to the role of an American soldier in the eponymous 1962 Frank Sinatra movie.
The film centers on Raymond Shaw, an American soldier who was taken prisoner and brainwashed by communists, turning him into a sleeper agent and murderer of a political target.
Frank Sinatra portrays Major Bennett Marco, Shaw’s commanding officer, who uses unsettling nightmares to assist him uncover the evil scheme.
Denzel Washington as Major Bennett Marco in the 2004 remake of the movie.
The two presidential contenders sparred during the discussion over a variety of topics, such as immigration, abortion, and the economy.
The 81-year-old Biden began the discussion by criticizing Trump’s administration, but he faltered multiple times.
Meanwhile, Trump took offense at Biden’s wording and accused him of starting the crisis in Ukraine. “If we had a leader, this is a war that never should have started,” he stated.
He went on to criticize Biden for providing “$200 billion or more to Ukraine,” saying that this was a substantial amount of money and that nothing had ever been “like it.”
