At the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on Thursday, August 22, United States (US) Vice President Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination for 2024.
To the cheers of Democrats at the convention, Harris declared, “I accept your nomination for president of the United States, on behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on Earth.”
Among the many topics Harris covered in her speech was what she would do as president. She also took a jab at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who was her opponent in the race.
Harris pledged at the outset of her address to serve as president for all Americans. “I pledge to serve as president on behalf of all Americans, upholding the fundamental values of the American Constitution, including the rule of law, free and fair elections, and the peaceful transition of power.”
She promised to prioritize the US over both herself and the Democratic Party. She also promised a smooth handover of power.
In order to generate jobs, expand our economy, and bring down the cost of necessities like housing, groceries, and health care, as president, I will unite labor and workers, small business owners, entrepreneurs, and American enterprises. We will give founders, entrepreneurs, and owners of small businesses access to finance. Additionally, we’ll preserve Social Security and Medicare and put a stop to America’s housing scarcity, she declared.
“And as president of the United States, I will proudly sign a bill to restore reproductive freedom into law when Congress passes it,” Harris continued, pledging to revive the bipartisan border security bill.
Harris blasted Donald Trump, labeling him as a nonserious individual. Donald Trump is a nonserious man in a lot of respects. However, there are very serious repercussions from placing Donald Trump back in the White House.”
“Imagine Donald Trump without any restraints and how he would utilize the enormous powers of the US presidency to serve the one client he has ever had—not to better your life or our national security,” she continued.
