On Friday, June 21, Russia declared that it had taken down 114 drones that Ukraine had launched during the course of the night, killing at least one person in the process. The Russian anti-aerial defense systems detected and destroyed 70 drones over Crimea and the Black Sea, 43 drones over the Krasnodar region, and one drone over Volgograd, according to a statement from the defense ministry.
Regional Governor Venyamin Kondratyev said that the victim of the attacks was a heating station employee in Krasnodar. Regional Governor Kondratyev said in a post on Telegram that the victim was murdered when a drone struck the building next to the Yuzhny rail station.
He said that damage was also done to several administrative buildings at an oil plant in the Severski district.
The Russian ministry of defense declared on Thursday that it had destroyed seven ammunition depots in Ukraine along with various pieces of equipment such as howitzers, armored cars, and infantry fighting vehicles.
There has been a war between Russia and Ukraine for more than two years. Ukraine has increased its strikes on Russian territory in recent months, focusing on energy facilities.
The country’s ability to generate electricity has been severely damaged by Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, forcing Kyiv to implement rolling blackouts and import electricity from the European Union (EU).
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, outlined a series of steps on Thursday to safeguard his nation’s energy grid, including the creation of substitute renewable energy sources and defense for plants under Russian bombardment.
“Life in Ukraine has to be preserved, and energy security is especially important,” President Zelensky stated in his daily video speech.
