Nancy Pelosi, the former speaker of the US House of Representatives, proposed that the nation honor President Joe Biden by putting his likeness on Mount Rushmore, a national monument in South Dakota that also features the likenesses of four other former US presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt.
Pelosi offered the recommendation in response to questions posed to her on allegations that she organized the coup that compelled Biden to withdraw from the presidential contest.
“At the pinnacle of his game, he was in a terrific position to make any decision. “President Obama is such a significant figure in American history—a president akin to Mount Rushmore,” Pelosi remarked.
Pelosi said, “Well, you got Teddy Roosevelt up there, and he is wonderful,” in response to a question about whether she was serious about Biden being erected at the famous monument. I am not saying take him out. Biden can be added, though.”
Pelosi said that Biden was at the “top of his game” when he announced his resignation, but she denied spearheading any effort to remove him.
“No, I did not spearhead any pressure efforts. Permit me to clarify a few things: I did not make a single phone call. I did not give anyone a call. I could tell him, ‘I never phoned anybody,’ at all times.”
Several media reports in the days preceding Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential contest stated that Pelosi and Barack Obama were the ones who supposedly orchestrated the collapse.
In a supposedly secret meeting, Pelosi informed Biden that, come November’s elections, he would not be able to stand Donald Trump.
Notably, this phone call was the two-way communication between the California lawmaker and Biden following the dismal June 27 debate between the president.
Obama, meanwhile, said that the 81-year-old should “seriously consider the viability of his candidacy” because there was no way for him to win.
Following his recovery from COVID-19 and move to his Delaware home, Biden shockingly announced that he was not running for reelection. He backed Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee minutes after the announcement, a decision that Pelosi and Obama did not agree with.
Given that President Biden had offered his endorsement, it was necessary for both prominent Democrats to eventually concede and back Harris’s candidacy.
