Friday, explosions were reported close to a ship east of the Yemeni port city of Aden, according to the UKMTO, the country’s maritime safety organization.
The agency stated that “the crew are reported safe” and that the ship was able to continue its voyage without providing its name.
Since November 2023, the Huthi rebels in Yemen, who are supported by Iran, have been attacking ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. They claim that their actions are a show of support for the Palestinian people during the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip.
In response to the rebel attacks, US and British forces launched retaliatory strikes and formed an international alliance to safeguard the crucial trade routes that traverse the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Four Huthi maritime drones and two aerial drones were destroyed, the US military reported on Thursday, over the Red Sea off Yemen.
Washington also demanded that the Huthis free the aid workers who had been imprisoned earlier this month.
One of the worst humanitarian disasters in history has been brought on by the Huthis’ protracted civil conflict. The poorest nation on the Arabian Peninsula is home to more than half of its population that depends on charity.
