Through Atlantic Records, she released “Bodak Yellow,” which went to No. 1 that year. In 2019, she received a Grammy for her debut album, Invasion of Privacy. “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi B’s commercial breakthrough single, which was released in August 2017, quickly gained popularity. It finally peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and achieved triple platinum status. When “Bodak Yellow” reached the top spot, it created rap history because Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998 was the last female solo rapper to do so.
Cardi B furthered her breakthrough that year by working with G-Eazy on “No Limit,” Migos on “MotorSport,” and Puerto Rican superstar Ozuna on “La Modelo,” in addition to releasing her second single, “Bartier Cardi,” in December.

Cardi B released her eagerly anticipated first album, Invasion of Privacy, on April 6, 2018. The album featured collaborations with Migos and 21 Savage in addition to songs that fans were previously familiar with. Due to the earlier success of “Bodak Yellow,” Invasion of Privacy was already eligible for a Gold certification at the time of its release. However, within a few days of its release, it had already surpassed Taylor Swift’s previous record for the most streams by a female artist in an album’s first week.
Cardi B experienced another historic milestone in July when “I Like It” from Invasion of Privacy reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first female rapper to accomplish this feat twice.
Cardi launched her second joint project with Mars in February 2019 called “Please Me,” and she made history by being the first solo woman to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album for Invasion of Privacy. Cardi won Album of the Year accolades at the BET Awards in June, just after the launch of another hit, “Press.”
In Hustlers, which came out in September of that year, the musician made her acting debut as a stripper named Diamond opposite Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu.
The Stage name
Cardi B confessed that the alcoholic beverage Bacardi is where she got her name. “Everyone used to be like Bacardi to me because my sister’s name is Hennessy, so I abbreviated it to Cardi B, and the ‘B’ stands for whatever… depending on the day,” she explained.

A grand jury charged Cardi in June 2019 on two counts of felony assault charge, six misdemeanors, and six infractions after she rejected a plea agreement.
