Hurricane Beryl blasted across open waters Tuesday as a Category 4 hurricane, moving toward Jamaica after previously striking islands in the southeast Caribbean, killing at least six people.
Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac are under hurricane warnings as Beryl decreases somewhat but remains a dangerous storm. Forecasters expect near-major hurricane strength as it passes across Jamaica on Wednesday, the Cayman Islands on Thursday, and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on Friday.
A hurricane watch was issued for Haiti’s southern coast and the Yucatan’s east coast. Belize issued a tropical storm watch that extended south from its border with Mexico to Belize City.
