Social media users scrutinize everything with a fine tooth comb, and this time, it was none other than Russian President Vladimir Putin who captured their interest. On social media, footage from Putin’s first visit to North Korea in 24 years has gone viral, purportedly depicting the leader as disinterested during a lavish concert held in Pyongyang in his honor.
Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un were among the guests at the Pyongyang Sports Hall concert, in addition to Russian and North Korean representatives.
“We welcome the President of the Russian Federation, Comrade Vladimir Putin!” A banner with Korean and Russian text stretched out over the hallway.
After Putin invaded the neighboring country of Ukraine on a large scale in February 2022, relations between Pyongyang and Moscow have improved diplomatically. The two presidents signed a new strategic alliance agreement on Wednesday, which stipulates that both nations must use all available resources to promptly supply military support in the event of a crisis.
After the national anthems of both countries were played, performers gave Putin a medley of popular Russian songs, including “The Sacred War,” “Where Does the Motherland Begin,” “We Need One Victory,” and “Katyusha.”
Almost 200,000 people have watched a video of Putin at the event, which sparked rumors on social media that he didn’t enjoy the concert.
One X user shared a screen grab of Russian President Putin and added, “Putin: ‘How did I get myself into this?!'”
Another said, “Putin looks bored.”
