According to many media sites citing a senior Hamas official, the militant Palestinian organization Hamas has allegedly accepted a peace proposal sponsored by the UN to end the conflict in Gaza.
Sami Abu Zuhri, a representative for Hamas, stated that the organization was prepared for additional talks and that Washington should make sure Israel complies with the UN resolution.
In response, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken described the development as “a hopeful sign.” He did, however, issue a warning that the terrorist group still needed to issue a concrete statement.
He remarked, “That’s what counts, and that’s what we don’t have yet.”
Blinken had earlier visited with Israeli authorities in an attempt to persuade them to halt their air and ground offensive against Hamas. This occurs one day after the UN Security Council authorized President Joe Biden’s ceasefire plan.
